Horticulture Level 5
PROGRAMME AIMS
This Horticulture course offers students the opportunity to explore the varied aspects of Plant Identification, Soil Science, Plant Science, Landscape Construction, Design and all aspects of
Horticulture.
Over the year, by combining classroom and practical elements, students will develop and enhance their knowledge and will acquire the skills required to start a career in the expanding area of Horticulture and the Green Economy or to progress on to further education.
Learners may be eligible to apply for a SUSI grant and other Department of Social Protection supports. Please contact the Centre for further information.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Leaving Certificate or equivalent standard of education.
Abbeyleix FETC welcomes applications from mature students.
Applicants are assessed on relevant life and work experience.
Successful completion of interview and online assessment.
Applicants should have an interest and basic knowledge in Horticulture.
If you are aged 23 or over but do not meet the minimum entry requirement. Your application will be assessed based on merit, taking into account your life experience, work or community experience.

COURSE DURATION & FREQUENCY OPTIONS
Full Time:
Classes will be run over the academic year full time basis
Academic timetable will be available nearer the beginning of the academic year, which usually begins towards the end beginning of September.
Part time options are also available.

FEES
There are no fees for our courses. Learners must purchase safety footwear/clothing for working outdoors in all types of weather.
FUNDING
The range of financial support available to students includes: Student Maintenance Grant (SUSI) and the Back to Education Allowance. For further information click on HEA Student Finance and SUSI.
For those in receipt of certain social welfare payments the Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme (VTOS) may be available. Please contact us for more information.
