PROGRAMME AIMS
This programme module will be offered as a standalone module leading to certification in a QQI Level 4 component award. This module may also be used as 10 credits towards a QQI Level 4 Certificate in Return to Learning (4M2010) Major Award.
WHAT DOES THIS COURSE OFFER?
- Class sizes are small, and learners receive regular feedback on how they are progressing
- Additional one-to-one support is available.
- This course is a great foundation for further studies at QQI Level 5.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Education: Applicants should have a standard of knowledge, skill and competence equivalent to NFQ Level 3 when accessing a Level 4 programme. Applicants may have participated in primary and secondary education although no formal qualifications are required.
- Aptitude: Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.
- Previous Experience: Applicants must be able to demonstrate a moderate range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course, be able to work under direction with some ability to work on their own initiative.
COURSE DURATION & FREQUENCY
- 1 Year Part-time
- Tuesdays 09:00 to 13:00.
- Beginning September 2024.

The classes are scheduled to be delivered on-site and timetabled over 1 morning a week. Abbeyleix Further Education and Training Centre provides a friendly and supportive learning environment with experienced tutors. There are no tuition fees.

When I made a decision to return to education as a mature student, I decided to do the General Studies Course (with Craft, IT and Healthcare options) in Abbeyleix FETC. I felt that the combination of practical and academic modules best suited my learning needs. I am pleased to say I completed all of my modules both in class and by remote learning during the Corona Virus (Covid-19). This course has been a huge stepping stone and learning curve for me. It has created a hunger and passion in me to progress onto the Level 5 Art, Craft & Design course in the Centre. Thanks to all my Tutors for your excellence in teaching, guidance, understanding, helpfulness and most of all believing in ME.

From the very first day to the last day I enjoyed every second of this course. The year was one of the best in my life so far. I got to not only spend the whole year learning, being creative, being pushed out of my comfort zone on a daily basis but I have made lifelong friends with my classmates and teachers. I am leaving having gained so much in terms of a new found confidence and new lease of life. I would definitely recommend this course as it provided a wide ranging curriculum that has something there for everyone.
The course exceeded my expectations in that I got so much out of it personally and developed so much as an individual.
