Bachelor of Business Studies (Honours)
PROGRAMME AIMS
Complete the first two years of a four-year Joint Tertiary Degree in LOETB Abbeyleix – then complete the remainder of your degree in South East Technological University’s (SETU) Carlow Campus!
This programme will give the people of Abbeyleix and surrounding areas the opportunity to access a tertiary degree in their local area without any requirement for a CAO application.
In this four-year course, you will complete the first two years in Abbeyleix, followed by Years 3 and 4 in SETU’s Carlow campus. Students will be registered with SETU from Year 1 and will have access to the full range of services available to all SETU students.
Transport from Abbeyleix to Carlow will be provided in Years 1 and 2 for cross-campus workshops.
Learners may be eligible to apply for a SUSI grant and other Department of Social Protection supports. Please contact the Centre for further information.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Those wishing to be accepted onto the programme should meet the following minimum entry criteria:
Leaving Certificate; 2H5 & 4O6/H7; including
English or Irish O6/H7; Mathematics O6/H7, or
Level 5 major award, or
Other qualifications equivalent to a major award
at level 5 on the NFQ
However, we will also accept your application if you are aged 23 or over but do not meet the minimum entry requirement. Your application will be assessed based on merit, taking into account your life experience, work or community experience.
If your first language is not English, the standard required is B2 (or equivalent) on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages in writing, reading, listening and speaking. Evidence of achievement of this standard is necessary for entry to the programme.
AREAS OF STUDY*
COURSE DURATION & FREQUENCY OPTIONS
Full Time:
Classes will be run over the academic year full time basis
Academic timetable will be available nearer the beginning of the academic year, which usually begins towards the end of August/beginning September.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
The wide range of subjects studied will provide learners with a broad understanding of the business world. This course will allow learners to identify their strengths and areas of interest to gain the depth of knowledge necessary for graduates to excel in their chosen field.
Our Honours Business Degree programme will equip you with a broad business skill-base, providing you with a wide range of career options so you can progress to work in a variety of sectors including manufacturing, financial services, and the public sector.
FEES
There are no registration fees for the first two years of the programme, which will be delivered in Abbeyleix. Students may be eligible to apply for a SUSI grant to cover fees for Years 3 and 4.
FUNDING
The range of financial support available to students includes: Student Maintenance Grant (SUSI) and the Back to Education Allowance. For further information click on HEA Student Finance and SUSI
